Another forgotten song of the late 60s. This band never got recognized as much as they deserved. Off of their debut.

@hfield07 Exactly, they put in run DMC and Michael jackson, but i don’t think rush is in yet?
got this for christmas in 1969.played it to death.got a few more albums later then met the band in 1971.cant believe it now. ive always liked procol.always will.
@substitute91 the rock fall of fame is a joke I mean come on Rush ain’t in there wishbone ash ain’t in there and this legendary band ain’t in there R&R HOF can suck it they only put the bands that generated the most publicity back in the day there’s so many under-rated bands that should be in there it’s not even funny!
the fact that Procol Harum is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame yet till this moment, i cant never explain!
@hfield07 I agree with you.
@Yourmomisnthere R&R hall of fame is nothing but a sham. Refuses to recognise the true talent in most rock acts and instead gives it to the names that will bring in the moolah.
Nice song….
To think, ABBA went into the Rock Hall before Procol Harum. (I just hope with Genesis in there, Procol Harum would be next)!
fue uno de los mejores grupos del siglo XX y coincido, no fueron debidamente reconocidos por los medios de comunicación, pero son un grupo de culto ahora y les aseguro que mucha gente que escucha sus viejos temas se vuelve fanática instantáneamente
this was my fav album for a long time
If memory serves none of the original 5 issues of this album from 1967 included Homburg. It was the second single though from the group! The 1972 reissue that included “A Whiter Shade of Pale” was exactly the same ten tracks but with “AWSOP” as the first track for a total of 11.
Actually Homburg is the first track on the very first album, and subsequently was released as the second single. Since this first album didn’t sell much (I think I was about the only buyer), it was rereleased later with A Whiter Shade Of Pale instead of Homburg.
I still love the album btw.
I would look at the album sometimes while listening and imagine that the woman on the cover is the one mentioned in this song. The lyrics are poetic and priceless. They really took surrealism to its logical conclusion in songwriting. This is clearly art on a high order.
real fan, hello
I stand corrected… Good Captain Clack indeed.
You missed out Live at Edmonton…sorry to be a pedant…
Jim
Homburg was a stand alone 45 in the UK..with Good Captain Clack on the flipside
Jim
“Homburg” was the “B” side of the single “Whiter Shade of Pale”, (what we used to call “45s”) and not re-released until these later albums.
This song is great for so many reasons – Gary Brooker’s singing, the keyboard and drum sounds, and not forgetting those surreal lyrics.
Well, I don’t know, but Homburg is on the remasteres version of Shine on Brightly and A Whiter Shade of Pale, and also on about three best of’s. Fantastic band.
Homburg didn`t appear on their early albums, I finnaly got it on a best of, or greatest hits. Do you think they were pulling a “dylan”
1967 – Procol Harum
1968 – Shine on Brightly

Great song. Love all of Reids lyrics. He never played with them, but did appear on stage from time to time
